SHAKEY’S PIZZA Asia Ventures, Inc. (SPAVI) has introduced plant-based “chicken” nuggets to its menu in partnership with unMeat, a local brand that offers meatless products.

The listed company said in a stock publication Tuesday that “the Goood Nuggets” will be sold nationwide at P179 and are produced in conjunction with unMeat, which is owned by SPAVI’s sister company, Century Pacific Food, Inc. (CNPF) .

“Goood Nuggets look, taste and feel like chicken nuggets, but are completely meatless. These nuggets are baked, not fried, and loaded with vegetable protein, making them healthier and more environmentally friendly, ”said SPAVI.

Vicente L. Gregorio, president and CEO of SPAVI, said the plant-based nuggets came after the launch of the company’s “Good Burger” plant-based burger last year.

Gregorio added that the products provide customers with healthy meat alternatives made from plant-based ingredients from non-genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that do not contain cholesterol or trans fats.

“At Shakey’s, the needs of our customers are a top priority. They were looking for products that are healthier, better for you and better for the planet, so we co-created “The Good menu” with unMeat to offer them at an affordable price, ”he said in the statement. .

“As we continue on our road to recovery from this pandemic, we remain steadfast in our commitment to impress our stakeholders by becoming a more responsible food company. We will continue to embed sustainability into our business and intensify our efforts in areas that will add value to our customers and stakeholders, our business and the communities we serve, ”he added.

For the first quarter, SPAVI recorded a 75% year-on-year decline in net profit to 29 million pesos from 114 million pesos in 2020. The company’s revenue for the quarter fell 30% to 1.28 billion pesos compared to the 1.83 billion pesos recorded in the same period last year.

On Tuesday, SPAVI shares on the stock exchange improved 0.90% or seven centavos to end at P7.88 each. – Revin Mikhael D. Ochave
