With 6,809 new coronavirus infections reported in one day, India’s total COVID-19 cases rose to 4, 44, 56,535, while active cases fell to 55,114, according to data from the Ministry of Health. Union Health updates Sunday.

The death toll soared to 5,27,991 with 26 fatalities including five Kerala reconciled deaths, according to data updated as of 8am.

Active cases account for 0.12 percent of total infections, while the national COVID-19 cure rate has risen to 98.69 percent, the ministry said.

Mumbai reports 376 cases of COVID-19, 2 deaths
Mumbai reported 376 COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Sunday, bringing the metropolis’ tally to 11,46,267 and the death toll to 19,709, a city official said.

The number of recoveries rose by 608 in the past 24 hours to 11.23,609, which left the city with 2,949 active cases, he said.

Of the new cases, only 27 are symptomatic, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.

So far, 1,81,24,510 samples have been tested for the coronavirus, including 5,798 in the past 24 hours, he added.

The recovery rate is 98%, while the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases between August 28 and September 3 was 0.039%.

The workload doubling time was 1,803 days, according to BMC data.

Pondicherry sees marginal drop in new COVID-19 cases
Pondicherry has seen a marginal drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases with 42 people testing positive, a senior health ministry official said on Sunday.

The Union Territory reported 47 cases on Saturday.

Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a statement that the 42 cases surfaced after examining 651 samples over the past 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. today.

While the Pondicherry region alone reported 36 new cases, Karaikal had four and Yanam – two. Mahe, an enclave of Pondicherry in Kerala has recorded no new cases.

The overall workload was 1,73,023, the director said.

Mr Sriramulu said the active cases stood at 265, including 10 patients under treatment in hospitals and the remaining 255 under quarantine at home.

He said 55 patients recovered in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries was 1,70,789.

There have been no new deaths in the past 24 hours in any of the four regions of Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahé and Yanam. The death toll remained at 1,969.

Maharashtra reports 1,205 Covid cases, 3 deaths
Maharashtra recorded 1,205 COVID-19 cases and three deaths on Sunday, bringing the total to 81,04,854 and the toll to 1,48,264, an official said.

Mumbai circle had 696 new cases, followed by Pune circle with 317, Nashik circle 45, Kolhapur circle 25, Nagpur circle 61, Latur circle 37, Aurangabad circle 19 and of Akola five, the official said.

The three deaths included two in Mumbai circle and one in Nagpur circle, he added.

The number of recoveries increased by 1,532 over the past 24 hours and reached 79.48,228, leaving the state with an active caseload of 8,364, he said.

Mumbai has 2,949 active cases, followed by 1,882 in Thane and 1,735 in Pune, he added.

Odisha records 221 new cases of COVID-19, 1 death
from Odisha covid-19 tally rose to 13,28,465 on Sunday as 221 more people, including 41 children, tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said.

The death toll rose to 9,180 when a 46-year-old man succumbed to the disease in Sambalpur district. So far, fifty-three other patients have died from comorbidities, he added.

Odisha had recorded 174 infections and one death on Saturday.

The state now has 1,740 workers covid-19 cases, while 214 more people have recovered from the disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 13,17,492.

The daily positivity rate was 1.62%.

Over 5.58 crore of unused Covid vaccines available with states

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Sunday that more than 5.58 crore unused covid-19 doses of vaccines are still available with states and union territories to administer, news agency ANI reports.

The ministry further said that over 201.88 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories.

“Over 201.88 crore (2,01,88,89,325) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Government of India (free channel) and through procurement category direct from the state,” the ministry said.

“Over 5.58 Cr (5,58,87,590) balance and unused Covid vaccine doses are still available with States/UTs to administer,” he added.

Thane records 224 new Covid cases
As many as 224 new coronavirus cases have been detected in Maharashtra’s Thane district, taking its tally of infections to 7,42,573, a health official said on Sunday.

With the addition of the latest cases on Saturday, the district currently has 1,992 active covid-19 cases, he says.

The death toll remained unchanged at 11,946, while the number of recoveries reached 729,161, he added.

West Bengal reports 193 new cases of COVID-19

West Bengal has reported 193 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours, the state health department said on Saturday.

The tally now stands at 21,07,707 and the death toll at 21,472, according to a department bulletin the number of active cases has fallen to 2,268 after 283 recoveries.

As of Saturday, 20,83,967 people had recovered in West Bengal since the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the bulletin.
