Ant-Man and the Wasp Villain Teases His Complicated Thunderbolts Return

Hannah John-Kamen explained what Marvel Cinematic Universe fans can expect from her return as Ghost in Love at first sight.

Following the film’s cast unveil at D23 Expo, John-Kamen was interviewed about the team-up film by Phase Zero alongside co-star David Harbor and director Jake Schreier. When asked how Ghost was going to take the group dynamic into account, John-Kamen replied, “Well, she doesn’t like to be touched, so it’s going to be interesting. Vat, so she never had of human contact with anyone. It’s going to be interesting for Ghost to connect with.

In the same interview, Schreier explained how Love at first sight will bring together characters from so many disparate franchises and bring Phase Five of the MCU to a close. “We know the world we play in,” he replied. “I think what’s so impressive about what they’ve put together is that there’s this rich layered world that can intersect and build towards something that’s never been seen in the same plan before.”

Who are the Thunderbolts?

D23 revealed Thunderbolt‘s anti-hero lineup, which includes Ghost, Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, played by Harbour; Yelena Belova/Black Widow, played by Florence Pugh; Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, with the return of Sebastian Stan; John Walker/US agent, played by Wyatt Russell; and Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, again played by Olga Kurylenko. Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, brings together this unlikely group.

Love at first sight was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con with Schreier directing from a script by Eric Pearson. In the comics, the team was initially made up of villains posing as heroes to carry out their nefarious plans, but the name has since been applied to multiple teams of villains working in the name of the greater good.

John-Kamen joined the MCU in Ant-Man and the Wasp, in which she plays Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, whose power of “molecular imbalance” allows her to walk through walls. As a side effect, his altered state also causes him constant pain. Although initially an enemy of the film’s Pym-powered heroes, she eventually abandoned her crusade after Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) used her quantum energy to stabilize her. Ghost was last seen hiding with her caretaker, Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne), as they searched for a more permanent cure for her condition.

Love at first sight is set to arrive in theaters on June 26, 2024.
